Good Neighbour Scheme (RVC)
Redbridge Voluntary Care (The Good Neighbour Scheme)
Redbridge Voluntary Care (RVC) was established in 1973, becoming incorporated with One Place East in 2024. One Place East now oversees what has become ‘The Good Neighbour Scheme’. The purpose of the service has always been to connect communities, to offer local support and to ensure that everyone living within Redbridge can access trustworthy assistance when needed.
The service is able to help in many ways – for example; providing companionship, carrying out small tasks around the home, providing low level gardening, collecting shopping or prescriptions, assisting with basic technical support, posting and collecting mail and accompanying to appointments, shopping, social events etc.
We can assist with those who are new to using mobility scooters, travelling on public transport or generally anxious when leaving the house.
The scheme can be highly beneficial to anyone who is new to the area, struggling to access local services and amenities, or who would like to engage with events and activities.
You are welcome to self-refer into the RVC/GNS project. We will carry out an assessment and discuss your needs and levels of support. Depending on the level of support you require, you may be referred to our befriending service.
The Good Neighbour Sheme is also provided by a team of dedicated volunteers – hence ‘Redbridge Voluntary Care’. If you feel that you would like to give something back to the community, provide support to neighbours or to develop your skills further – then please take a look at the ‘volunteering’ page of our website. You can give as little as an hour each week.
Our volunteers are supported through training, regular meetings and get-togethers and through peer support. We celebrate the commitment, dedication and support that our volunteers provide through National Volunteers Week and social events.
