Do you want to improve written communication skills?

Join our Creative Writing and Journalism Project, starting in April 2024. 

The aim of the project is to improve written communication skills so Deaf and Disabled People can play a role in One Place Easts’ communications, digital content production and new peer support programmes.

During this programme, you will:

  • Build confidence in storytelling and writing for digital media
  • Peer support used as a tool to share ideas, skills and motivate
  • Learn skills important for citizen journalism, such as documenting what they see, hear and think.
  • Practical experience in the process of collecting, reporting, analysing and sharing news and information.
  • Learn about careers in creative industries and journalism

The project will see a variety of workshops on Creative Writing.

Programme schedule

Workshop 1 - Writing Self-Portrait Poetry

2 Day Workshop – 16 and 23 April
2 till 4pm at One Place East

Join us on Tuesday 16th and 23rd April for a two-part creative writing workshop.

Learn how to write self-portrait poetry and bring your imagination to life and express your identity and feelings. The workshops will be led by the talented Aneela Rajput.

Workshop 2 - Writing a short story Journaling your journey

3 Day Workshop – 24 April, 1 and 8 May
2 till 4pm at One Place East

Join us on Wednesday 24th April, and 1st and 8th May for a three-part creative writing workshop.

Write a short story about your lived experience of disability and how it made you who you are today. The workshops will be led by the talented Mickey Mayhew.

2 Day Workshop – 17 & 24 May

Join us on Friday 17th and 24th May for a two-part creative journalism workshop.

The talented workshop facilitator, Cameron will take you through the steps for what makes a good community journalist.

Join us on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th June for a two-part Happiness Writing workshop.

The 2-day workshop will involve various creative writing activities and reflections centred on joy.

The workshop will be led by the talented Cara Wilson.
